Hello, my name is Marcella Andrews, owner of Lighten Up. Through my experiences with home décor I came to realize that changing or updating the lighting in a room is one simple, inexpensive way to give a favourite room a makeover.

Lighting is central to what gives a room mood, character and comfort. Good lighting relaxes, warms and provides a soothing atmosphere for the senses. The visual strength and beauty of a lamp can uplift and inspire, making it a perfect choice for personal enrichment as well as for gifting.

I have found contemporary lighting, in general, to be neutral and, well, just plain boring; failing to take advantage of its potential to inspire. Lighten Up was born from a love of the rich colour and texture of handmade papers—materials that can add a sense of interest and atmosphere to any room in your home. Simply re-creating an existing shade can change the feel of a room in an instant. Add light to the mix and… voila… a gorgeous, yummy feast for the eyes. Any boring, white or beige shade can be transformed into a unique, functional art piece which will match your lamp as well as your decor. Choose a paper from my collection of exotic, translucent neutral and earthy; or rich and colourful papers. All lamps and shade are supplied with a "power smart" light bulb, so you will never feel guilty leaving it lit.

Located in beautiful Qualicum Beach, BC, Lighten Up serves the Oceanside area, but can accommodate special requests from further a field. LU also offers window art, like the example at right. In addition,  lamp and shade rescue services are available, as are creativity classes. And, of course, custom orders are a specialty.
